Reading Notes: Ramayana, Part B

Week 3: Reading Ramayana, Part B

As a continuation of my last blog post, I read stories 51-100 of Tiny Tales from the Ramayana. Just like last time, I have selected three that interested me the most and I will be summarizing them here. The first two go hand and hand. The first is titled "Dasharatha Sends Rama into Exile", number 53. The title of the story describe the opening. Rama did not resist, he says that the kings promise must be kept. He willing goes, and Lakshmana and Sita say they must go as well.  Urmila stays behind, but she wept. The next story I chose was number 54, "The Exiles Depart". A charioteer had taken the three of them down to the river. The people of Ayodhya followed, Rama told them to go home, they didn't listen. The three of them departed while the people of Ayodhya slept during the night. When they woke up, they realized Rama was gone. They left as he had initially told them to. The hi-res awaited his return.

The last story that I chose was number 93, "When Hanuman Was Hungry". They story is about how when Anjana gave birth to Hanuman, she left him all by himself in the forest. As anyone would, he became very hungry. The first food that caught his eye was the mango in the sky. He wanted to eat it so badly. He flew into the sky reaching for it. The storm god, Indra, was not okay with this. In fact, he sent a thunderbolt at Hanuman. Hanuman fell to the ground and broke his jaw.
